Deacon Blue?s Ricky Ross to Play Intimate Piano Show at FRETS in Aid of Simon Community Scotland

Ricky Ross, the singer and songwriter of Deacon Blue, will perform a special, intimate piano show, hosted by his friend Douglas McIntyre and FRETS, in the beautiful Strathaven Hotel. This special one-off show is in support of Simon Community Scotland, a charity dedicated to providing safe places, support, and hope for people experiencing homelessness.

Set to take place on Saturday 10th May, this exclusive performance will offer fans a rare opportunity to see Ricky Ross in an up-close setting, sharing songs and stories in a stripped-back, personal format.

Speaking about the event, Ricky Ross said: "I?m delighted to be playing at FRETS where I?ll be joined by two of my best friends The Pearlfishers? David Scott and Deacon Blue?s Gregor Philp. The night is in support of the incredible work of Simon Community Scotland. Homelessness is a challenge that affects so many people. Lorraine and I have supported the charity for a number of years, visiting their hubs and supported accommodation services, speaking with staff and people who the charity are helping. The need for Simon Community Scotland?s work is greater than ever. Music has the power to bring people together, and I hope this night helps raise awareness and much-needed funds for a great cause."
 
FRETS, a renowned independent music promoter known for its unique and intimate gigs, is proud to be hosting Ricky Ross for such a meaningful occasion. Douglas MacIntyre, founder of FRETS, added: "FRETS has always been about bringing special musical experiences to Strathaven, and having Ricky Ross perform in such a personal setting is an honour. Knowing that this evening will also support the life-changing work of Simon Community Scotland makes it even more special."

Simon Community Scotland has been at the forefront of tackling homelessness for over 50 years, providing essential services and support across Scotland. Murray Easton, Head of Fundraising & Communications for Simon Community Scotland, commented:

There were 40,685 homelessness applications recorded in 2023-24. This is an increase of 4% compared to 2022-23 (39,308)

There was a total of 31,870 open homelessness cases at 31 March 2024; an increase of 8% compared to 2023 (29,408)

Simon Community Scotland is leading the delivery of new solutions for homelessness across Scotland.

In 2024, the charity supported over 10,000 people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Day in and day out, we are there for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness ? providing empathy, care, support, information, advice, accommodation and homes.
We do this person-to-person on the streets, on the phone, through outreach support, in our hubs, through digital inclusion and harm reduction, in our emergency and supported accommodation services and our own SCS homes.

We meet people where they are. We walk alongside them. We never give up.
