Monsterosa emerged from a lockdown project to write songs and instrumentals for five jazz musicians based on Italo Calvino's Marcovaldo stories, using all their favourite instruments and genres.
The songs and tunes were inspired by moments of possibility finding the coutryside in the city. The melodies are rooted in jazz, taking in a wider love for soul, folk, and latin music, and played with the verve and precision of some of the UKs leading performers.
Rebecca Hollweg vocals
Graeme Wilson saxophones & other woodwinds, piano, balafon
Ross Milligan guitars
Andy Hamill double bass, harmonicas
Tom Gordon drums, percussion
London Jazz News praised the album as 'a beautiful jazz collection':
?The band are terrific?crystalline vocals convey the joy and poignancy of these tales...the whole ensemble play with a deftness and sensitivity?
?A joy to listen to?There are no longueurs; the music drives forward with fascinating variety until its charming conclusion"
