Trappist Afterland, The Gentle Good & Henry Parker

Event Type

Genre : Music - Folk/blues/world

Description

An intimate night of boundary pushing psych-folk with the cult Australian artist Trappist Afterland who makes a welcome return to UK soil for a triple bill tour alongside Welsh language troubadour The Gentle Good and Yorkshire finger-style folk guitarist Henry Parker. A mesmeric evening of left-field folk music awaits all those who come witness this unique triple billing. Not to be missed!

TRAPPIST AFTERLAND

Southern New South Wales, Australian-based Adam Geoffrey Cole and his band Trappist Afterland make beautifully meditative deep acid folk/devotional music using voices, various acoustic stringed instruments, tabla, percussion, harmonium and Tanpura drones, and have been doing so since 2010, during the course of which they have released at least 25 albums as well as a live take on the soundtrack to Nic Roeg's 'Walkabout' on labels such as Sugarbush Records, Future Grave, Reverb Worship, Sunstone and many more.

THE GENTLE GOOD

The Gentle Good is the moniker of Cardiff-based musician and songwriter Gareth Bonello. Gareth is known for his enchanting melodies, intricate guitar style and beautiful acoustic arrangements. As a former winner of both the Welsh Language Album of the Year and the Welsh Music Prize, Gareth has long been a prominent musician on the Welsh music scene.

The Gentle Good?s new album ?Elan? is a psychedelic portrait of the Elan Valley in Powys, Wales. It was written during a year-long residency in the Cambrian Mountains and explores the landscape, history and politics of the valley.

?For fans of Welsh folk, global fusion, and ambient psychedelia, this is an album not to be missed.? (Psychedelic Scene).

HENRY PARKER

Henry Parker?s contemporary take on folk, which he explores via thoughtful yet deeply accomplished guitar playing, unfurls and moves much like the landscape itself ? mirroring the unpredictable, yet beautifully flowing, rolling hills and valleys of his native county of West Yorkshire.

Henry has recorded 2 albums: the eco-conscious ?Silent Spring? (2019) and ?Lammas Fair? (2021), bringing him to the forefront of the progressive folk music world. In 2023 he curated and recorded for American label Tompkins Square Records, bringing together a tribute album to Michael Chapman, one of his most important musical influences.

?His relaxed vocals and songwriting are as warm and open as his tunings? (8/10 Uncut Magazine)

?What Parker does so effectively is to blend ancient with early-70?s and modern styles?
(Mojo ????).
