Description

There was a time when rock and roll was about fist-pumping riffs, sizzling musicianship and super-charged vocals. But Streetlight Circus proves that thundering rhythms and memorable hooks don’t have to be a thing of the past. Under this New York City band’s Big Top is a selection of songs and a stageshow that will transport you back to those sweaty, sleazy nights of rock and roll past while throttling you with an edgy, modern twist that has kept fans coming back for more.

Established by singer, bassist and songwriter David Shaw to support his acclaimed solo release Walkin’ On A Wire, the members soon became a unified rock and roll front prompting the changing of the group’s moniker to Streetlight Circus after Shaw wrote a song by the same name. Touting an array of all the right influences, the quartet consists of Shaw along with guitarists George Giannoulis and Fabio Bargna and drummer Erik Fehrenbach.

Together, these four veteran musicians have committed themselves to giving audiences the best possible show night after night and seeing as how the band’s audiences have grown, it is clear that they are doing it right. Streetlight Circus has shared bills with countless national acts, has toured the country from all points south to the Sunset Strip in Hollywood and has been invited to perform at festivals such as the enormous Rocklahoma, the popular M3 Rock Festival in Columbia, Maryland as well as New York’s Great South Bay Music Festival and others. In addition, the band’s music has been featured on MTV original programming, radio stations from Texas all the way to Denmark and compilation albums that have found their way to stores throughout the United States and Europe.

Since the release of the band's debut album in spring 2012 and the follow up 2013 album, The Snake Mountain Sessions, Streetlight Circus has been bringing the hard rockin’ carnival to cities and venues big and small. Wherever there are people starving for real, no frills, down and dirty rock and roll, Streetlight Circus is ready to satisfy their appetites.

Duck and Drake Profile Pic

Description

The Duck & Drake is an historic pub in the centre of Leeds in beautiful West Yorkshire. Expect to find the finest cask ales and some of the tastiest live music anywhere in the city!

A fine example of a two-roomed Victorian corner pub retaining some original features. Wood-floored throughout and some of the floorboards have survived two hundred years of trade.

The central bar with fifteen handpumps sits in between and serves both rooms.

There is live music most nights from a small stage in the corner of the front room, which also features a mural on the back wall depicting many blues and rock legends and is decorated with various music memorabilia.

The pub has existed under several different names including THE HORSE & GROOM & THE BROUGHAM'S ARMS. During the second world war Broughams had a reputation for being a place where women would meet and entertain American GI’s. It wasn't until 1985 - while the pub was under the care of landlord Les Moon - that the name changed to The Duck & Drake. Though the present name is represented in the form of waterfowl it actually refers to the pastime of skimming stones on water called “ducks & drakes”.

Parking is often tricky... There is an NCP car park quite close by but it closes bang on 11pm - so if the bands still rocking - your car may get locked in!
