Live Performance
Blues / Rock / Jazz / Funk / R&B / Soul
Dean Newton - Guitar and vocals.
A graduate of the London College of Music, Dean has studied under some of the most highly respected guitarists in the world. He is an in-demand West Cumbrian based musician and guitar teacher who’s playing style is very modern yet rooted in the traditions of Jazz and Blues. Never one to stand still, he is always seeking out new sounds and concepts to find that elusive “cutting edge”. Dean is also an endorsed artist for Tokai Guitars.
John Marcangelo - Drums.
John was born in Whitehaven, Cumbria but spent his early years in New York. After attending Leeds College of Music he moved to London working with the composer Cornelius Cardew. He later formed the band Violinski with Mik Kaminski of E.L.O making the UK Top Twenty with his composition “Clog Dance”. John has writing and performing credits on many projects/sessions as diverse as TV commercials and Allan Holdsworth. John was also a private student of legendary Jazz drummer Philly Joe Jones.
Jeff Barnes - Bass.
Jeff has been playing bass for over 40 years, and has toured all over the world with different ensembles, both independently and as part of the band on different luxury cruise liners. His playing style is influenced by the late great Jaco Pastorius among others, fused together to make his own unmistakeable sound.
The Duck & Drake is an historic pub in the centre of Leeds in beautiful West Yorkshire. Expect to find the finest cask ales and some of the tastiest live music anywhere in the city!
A fine example of a two-roomed Victorian corner pub retaining some original features. Wood-floored throughout and some of the floorboards have survived two hundred years of trade.
The central bar with fifteen handpumps sits in between and serves both rooms.
There is live music most nights from a small stage in the corner of the front room, which also features a mural on the back wall depicting many blues and rock legends and is decorated with various music memorabilia.
The pub has existed under several different names including THE HORSE & GROOM & THE BROUGHAM'S ARMS. During the second world war Broughams had a reputation for being a place where women would meet and entertain American GI’s. It wasn't until 1985 - while the pub was under the care of landlord Les Moon - that the name changed to The Duck & Drake. Though the present name is represented in the form of waterfowl it actually refers to the pastime of skimming stones on water called “ducks & drakes”.
Parking is often tricky... There is an NCP car park quite close by but it closes bang on 11pm - so if the bands still rocking - your car may get locked in!
