Katherine Aly having collaborated on many musical projects in Scotland's capital, including Hidden Door Festival, various art projects and as the lead singer of shoegaze band, Lilac Melt, the exceedingly talented Ms Aly has since worked with innumerable UK-based musicians/bands, including Baby Taylah, Glassmasterer, False Bliss, Midi Paul and Sheltering Waves. Her melody-driven tracks are a multi-genre experimentation with ethereal, lyrical elements and dreamy ambience. Her single 'The Skin I'm Made Of' made a great impact, as did her debut live performance alongside Scots noir wave icons The Filthy Tongues in The Dublin Castle earlier this year, and she subsequently played with the Tongues' mothership, the amazing Goodbye Mr McKenzie at their sold out Aberdeen show earlier this year . Originally from Greece, Katherine Aly has a unique story arc and an equally singular talent all her own with influences from the likes of Dead Can Dance, Chelsea Wolfe and Jeff Buckley. Currently working up her debut album ad with the excellent new 'Sunny Days' single to promote, we can't recommend checking out Katherine's show tonight enough.
D-Kel & Los Bandidos Mixing a mighty agreeable and engaging yelp of a rap with some heavy funk rocklike Wiley fronting Funkadelickinda. Frontman D-Kel takes inspiration from London where he was born and bred and Latin America where his roots lie, and draws inspiration from Artists such as Roots Manuva, Slaves, The Beat, The Specials, Jamie T, The Streets, Calle 13 & Tego Calderon. Social conscience with a cool creative spin of verbals. The excellent 'Racket' is available on all good music forums. Another unmissable new act you can say 'I was there' about in a few years time!
Calum Lintott After releasing his official debut EP, 'The Way It Is', in 2016, which features fan favourite and his debut single ' Pin-Up', Lintott has been hard at work. Non stop writing, creating and releasing bigger anthems, including the much anticipated emotional acoustic track 'I Don't Mind', in early 2018 and his double single 'Hometown & English Daisy' at the tail end of 2018. Lintott released his new single 'My Dear!' in April 2019. The new ear worm of a track is a smack in the face reminder that Lintott's exciting and lively mix of indie pop is awfully infectious. Anthemic Indie Pop at its finest, BRILLIANT! GIGSLUTZ / THIS FEELING
Hugo Hamlet and the Dandelions - witty and engaging jazz tinged pop with wry, sharp lyrics, sorta a Noel Coward for our times, also a bit of a Jarvis Cocker vibe and at times Momus and The Divine Comedy.
The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines.
There are DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere.
But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
