A Saturday night of tango, bolero, salsa, son and bossa nova at legendary east London venue Jamboree with Babesa Cubana taking Greek music back to its Latin roots. The band will play two sets over the course of the night, with live music beginning at 8.30.
Greece has always been captivated by the exoticism of South America. From the 1940s onwards so many Greek songs are coloured and driven by the rhythms and sounds of Brazil, Cuba, Argentina and the other beautiful countries of this continent. Tonight the band will take Greek songs and give them back" to their Latin roots. Fronted by Latin jazz singer Andria Antoniou (Cyprus), a group of musicians from Greece and South America bring a fresh take on classic songs from all the eras...tango, bolero, salsa, son, bossa nova...it is all there.
The band are:
Andria Antoniou (Cyprus) - voice
Pavlos Carvalho (Brazil/Greece) - bouzouki/cello
Kostas Kopanaris (Greece) - percussion
George Stamatis (Greece) - guitar
Adolfredo Pulido (Venezuela) - double bass.
