Roddy was born in Kenya, the son of a 'gentleman' farmer and an ex- Royal Navy mother. He grew up in Dumfries, Scotland, until going to college: firstly to Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, where he studied Drawing and Painting and then to Napier College, Edinburgh where he got a Design Degree. Roddy has lived in and around Stony Stratford for 38 years and is a well known face in the town: as a musician (he was one of the original founders of Stony Live! and has played Folk On The Green too many times to count), and generally as one of the characters of the town. He has also recently revived his interest in painting to much acclaim.
