ALL TICKET HOLDERS WILL RECEIVE A FREE eBOOK of ANOINT MY HEAD... OR HOW I FAILED TO MAKE IT AS A BRITPOP INDIE ROCKSTAR WTH THEIR PURCHASE (download from your confirmation email).

Anoint My Head or... How I Failed To Make it as a Britpop Indie Rockstar - Andy Macleod returns to The Dublin Castle where he once rubbed shoulders with early performances by the awesome likes of Killers, Arctic Monkeys and The War On Drugs in the days of Club Fandango...but we've not invited Andy back to dissect nascent noughties popstars peccadilloes tonight, but rather his sweet own, as a guest of Book Club off the back of his critically acclaimed memoir..."It?s 1992 and Horace dreams of becoming a rockstar with his band the Pointy Birds. The only problem is that his day-job (mis)filing vinyl in a Soho record store is stealing all his time and energy, plus rival bands like Suede, Blur, Pulp and Radiohead are moving on to bigger and better things. But then someone called Ricky offers his services as a band manager and at last the dream can start. Anoint My Head is the tale of a band who didn?t become rich, or famous but had a manager who did. It is also the story of a musical era, and documents the rise of some of the biggest British Britpop bands of the nineties, plus a comedian who went on to write quite a successful sitcom about a paper merchants in Slough. A coming-of-age story about pursuing your dreams and what happens when reality gets in the way"....

This festive Book Club special will feature a Q And A with fellow Dublin Castle stalwart Tony Bugbear plus DJ action giving you the roots, shoots, fruits and cahoots of 'Anoint My Head' and a special surprise live set too...probably not Ricky Jervais in a billowing linen shirt...oh and the Macleod largesse is such that there may be mince pies available on the door, Happy Christmas, and remember A BOOK MAKES A GREAT GIFT!!

Description

The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines.

There are DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere.

But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
