The Real Music Club Present Chop Chop

Event Type

Genre : Music - General

Description

Chop Chop:

?CHOPCHOP?s music snakes round its orator like a slippery thing, cymbals replaced by the clatter of hubcaps on toms, cutlery-jammed guitars ? there?s an itchy jazzy vibe to the melodics, fuelled by a fertile imagination full of bruised shapes and punkish angles.

Performance artist Xelís de Toro dances the jagged edges superbly in an urgent, jerky Giacometti centrepiece that has a David Byrne-like drive to his contortions, enraptured in a stream of consciousness simplicity and a razor-sharp intellect.

The sounds that surround him are tensive, built up on darting dynamics, eerie keys and smeared trumpet that Schaumburg your head with surprise. A mosaic whole, crawling and crackling, mining mantra-like to vocal abstracts that punch out their confines. Their last track is a beautiful contraction that secures a well deserved applause.?

The Golgis:

Ade, Tony, Wolfington and Nigel are The Golgis, the South East's Premier Absurdist Pantomime Acoustic Theatre Art Alternative Folk Rock Band!!!!

The return to live performance has seen some songs filled out with the addition of electric bass guitar and on occasion, electric guitar. This gives The Golgis the flexibility to mutate to suit each occasion by playing entirely acoustic, entirely electric, hybrid sets or even one set of each.

R.Dyer

Live loops, mesmerising harmonies, baroque pop and emergency nose-flute R.Dyer combines anything from found sounds, synth, musical saw, saxophone, nose-flute, folk harp, household objects, and light up shoelaces to create looped performances which move from baroque-pop to mesmerising soundscapes via acapella lullabies and stories about dogs in trainers. A regular performer in their home-town of Brighton, they?ve supported Sarah Angliss, Porridge Radio, Ana da Silva & PHEW!, Alabaster dePlume, Haiku Salut and Richard Dawson, as well once dressing up as an ice cream and leading a revolt against the band they were supporting.

Pub & Live Music Venue

The Brunswick Profile Pic

Description

The Brunswick has been transformed through an extensive refurbishment programme to become the premier music and arts venue in Hove. The owners are committed to providing quality, value for money and a friendly atmosphere. We believe that a pub is an essential part of any thriving community, and should be seen as a facility for the whole community. By encouraging local groups, we run a range of classes: acting, singing, painting, language, wine tasting; and have become a meeting place for a number of groups. With a large garden and a number of meeting rooms, we can offer space for most clubs, societies or social groups. If your looking for somewhere to host your book group, yoga class, dance class, debating club, and so on, give us a call, or better still, pop in. Support your local pub.

Built in the 1930’s, The Brunswick is a striking building with curved bays, turret roofs and brass crittall style windows. Much of the original paneling (the same as used in the Orient Express) has been rescued and restored, particularly in The Venue. Atmosphere and mood change as you move from the beautifully constructed sunny garden through the airy garden room to the bar (a fusion of the best of modern bar and traditional pub). Despite the high-tech sound and stage equipment, the music and arts Venue with its wood paneling, period lighting and fireplace retains a wonderfully cozy feel. Upstairs we have beautifully decorated rooms for meetings and private parties – see Function Room Hire

We offer a broad range of home cooked food every day. Accolades have included “Restaurant quality food at pub prices”; “The best Sunday Lunch in Brighton”; “As an American, I’m very critical of hamburgers – this is one of the best I’ve had anywhere.”
