Description

Little Red Riding Hood and Other Lost Girls told by Nell Phoenix.

"On the night of a rare, red-tinted full moon, superb storyteller Nell Phoenix leads us on a winding, unfamiliar path through that most well-known of fairy tales, the story of Little Red Riding Hood." (Exeunt Magazine).

The fairy tale world is littered with girls who are lost or mislaid, and very few are as innocent as you might first imagine. Nell Phoenix strays from the path in search of young, and not so young, women who have played in the woods, forgotten the rules, and should have at least had an inkling, that something was likely to go horribly wrong. Darkly humorous and seriously playful.

"Phoenix is a mercurial and captivating performer." (Dave Fargnoli).

"Bold, bubbly and brutal, Nell Phoenix guides us through a plethora of girl-meets-wolf tales in a lively evening of storytelling". (Justin Stathers, TheatreBubble)

"I found her performance stunning, witful and extraordinarily poetic.? (Reinhold Erzählbühne Berlin, Theater oN).

"I saw you perform at the Cube in Bristol last week and was absolutely floored by your performance. I especially loved the way you played with the grotesque instead of backing away from it thank you for transporting me out of cold and rainy Bristol and into the wildwood." (Kat, Audience Member).

Nell?s work includes stories told at Amsterdam Storytelling Festival, Alden Biesen Storytelling Festival, British Museum, Hampton Court Palace, Royal Opera House, Newlon Housing Estate, Rich Mix, Blast Storytelling club, Earth House, Cranbourne, Fireside Festival, Highgrove, Hackney Library, Kensington Palace and for NTS Live, London's coolest digital radio station.

She also creates unique stories for charities and companies; commissions incl. Royal Opera House London, Hampton Court Palace, V&A, British Museum, 40 Winks Bedtime Stories, World Wildlife Fund, Arts for Human Rights, After Adoption, Radley Handbags and Selfridges.

She has told hundreds of stories to thousands of school children, 3-19 years old, in the UK, India, Colombia, Mexico and China. Nell performed at the Nivesh Festival, Delhi 2013, and was part of the ICELT (Arts in Education) Conference in Malaysia 2015.

She is Patron of Reading at Belmont Primary School in Haringey, encouraging the students connect with all things story. Teaching storytelling, improvisation and devising skills is a key part of Nell?s work. She runs courses, weekly classes and workshops for all ages. She has run sessions for students, teachers, librarians, would-be-priests and developing storytellers.

She is Artistic Director of StoryNight at Torriano, Kentish Town's thriving performance storytelling clubs for adults. Nell is a passionate promoter of storytelling as a contemporary performance art.
