Event Type

Genre : Music - Folk/blues/world

Description

Daria Kulesh and Anastazja Tymko bring you songs of love, hope and peace from two countries at war.

Daria Kulesh has been described by Mike Harding as ?one of the finest voices and one of the most intriguing and interesting songwriters on the present folk scene?. Mixing her Eastern roots with Western folk influences, she creates an original and exciting sound, full of passion and magic. She has toured extensively and has three award-winning solo albums to her name. Born in Russia but based in the UK for the last 15 years, she fearlessly explores her heritage and turbulent family history in Ingushetia (North Caucasus) with songs that "aren't just sung, but lived".

Anastazja Tymko is a Mezzo-Soprano born in L?viv, Ukraine. As a young person she participated in the children?s folk choir Pysanka in her home city, since she was 5 years old, performing in the Philharmonic hall and also at L?viv Opera house. She continued her studies at the Stanislav Ludkevych college of music under Honoured Artist Bohdan Kosopud, during which she was awarded a Diploma in the Kharkiv Young artist competition. She also won first prize in the Oksana Petrusenko competition in Kherson. Anastazja continued her studies at the Academy of Music in Krakow, where she studied with Dr. Habil. Olga Popowicz. During her time in Poland she performed in Krakow Philharmonic hall with the Academy Symphony orchestra under Pawel Przytocki, as well as concerts in Rzeszow, Przemysl, Katowice, Stary Sancz, Jaroslaw and Niepolomice Castle. Anastazja was also a participant in Purcell?s The Fairy Queen conducted by Paul Esswood with performances in Krakow?s beautiful Florianka Hall as well as the university of Warsaw. Tonight she will be singing a set of Ukrainian folk songs rather than the classical music for which she is also known.

We will also have a fantastic line-up of local artists who all wish to show their support, including Michael King (Boat To Row) and Thorpe & Morrison who have already confirmed. More artists to follow, we'll update this page as they confirm

Thanks to the artists, sound engineers and gig staff who are all be donating their time for free and to Cartridge & Print Solutions who will be printing the posters for free.
