Description

Rock N Roll Book Club in conjunction with Star Black Press hits a Friday night with added wigout weekend bounce from some brilliant bands and poet and compere Cherry B plus DJs Tony Bugbear and then Fuzz til 2am.

Our guest author tonite is one Simon Lyons, a regular gig goer on the circuit, you'll have all stood next to him at the bar in his delightfully distressed Harrington jacket at some point. In fact you have to wonder, when does he ever have a night in and find time to write books? Well he does, and you can find out all about it tonight.

'The Last Weekend In Wonderland' is Simon's third book to date, and his debut for Alan Galaxy's new adjunct to Blackstar Promotions, that'll be Star Black Press. All good then...plus we have TV and radio's Steve Blacknell in tow as guest interviewer (no missis it's not Timmy Mallet).

There will be a Q and A, you can buy a book, get it signed and get a pic with the author, but on top of that Mr Galaxy has invited two excellent bands along to send the needle on the entertainment meter way into red for the duration, fabulous punk covers combo Spud and The Crazy 88s, commandeered by the man from John Lambert's Broadchurch Mr Andy Cracknell...a powerful blend of old school rock dynamics and punk rock righteousness, addressing the state of the nation for your delectation ce soir. Should be a bloody good night then.

NB a very limited numbered and signed hardback edition of 'The Last Weekend In Wonderland' will be on sale on the night.

Description

The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines.

There are DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere.

But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
