Finalists in Arran?s 2019 international McClellan Prize for Poetry: Pamela Brough, James Caruth and Jane Williams, with guitar and song from Arran?s Tim Pomeroy.

Pamela Brough?s work includes The Burma Play, promoted by Amnesty, sponsored by The Co-operative; Jinglebones, a long narrative poem grant-aided by the Arts Council. Radio work includes Moorland Matters for BBC Radio Stoke and Diary of a Moorland Winter, with Prunella Scales. She worked with farmers in Cumbria during the Foot and Mouth epidemic, as Writer in Residence in Halewood, Merseyside during the Year of the Artist, and in schools, communities, and universities in northern England and Scotland. Pam was the 2019 winner of the McClellan prize for poetry.

James Caruth was born in Belfast but has lived in Sheffield for the last 33 years. His first collection A Stone?s Throw was published by Staple in 2007. Dark Peak a long sequence appeared from Longbarrow in 2008 followed by Marking The Lambs with Smith Doorstop in 2010. His poems have appeared in a number of anthologies including The Sheffield Anthology (2012); Cast ? The Poetry Business Book of New Contemporary Poets (2014) and One For The Road (2017). His pamphlet The Death of Narrative was an overall winner of the 2013/2014 Poetry Business Competition judged by Carol Ann Duffy. His last pamphlet Narrow Water was published by Poetry Salzburg in 2017 and a second collection is due to be published in 2021. His poem A Harvest of Stones was commended in the McClellan prize for poetry 2019.

Jane Kinton. (3rd Prize, 2019 McClennan)
Jane Kinton studied English at Durham University, and has recently completed a Diploma in Creative Writing from Cambridge University Institute of Continuing Education. She works in industry and plays the violin in any time she can spare from working and writing. Jane?s current writing project is revising her first novel, which she is enjoying much less than drafting it! As well as fiction, Jane enjoys writing poetry, and in 2019 was placed third in the McLellan Poetry Competition. She lives near Runnymede in Surrey.

Tim Pomeroy is one of Scotland?s finest sculptors, with a handy reputation singing and playing traditional Scottish Folk Music at Creelers Restaurant on Arran.

Description

Foxlowe Arts Centre is a community run arts centre for the people of Leek and The Staffordshire Moorlands.

Leek’s arts centre is housed in the historic building, Foxlowe, at the top of Leek’s market place.

Foxlowe Arts Centre opened its doors in December 2011 and has already gained a strong following from the local community and is attracting attention from further afield as well. Funded by individuals’ pledges, donations and trading proceeds and with the majority of the staff volunteering, this is truly a community arts centre for the people of Leek and the Staffordshire Moorlands.

With a popular café, bar, gallery, live performance space for music, drama, comedy, talks and a cinema, the Foxlowe Arts Centre has rapidly established a reputation as the go to place in Leek.

Foxlowe arts centre has limited parking at the back of the building for permit holders and disabled users only. Some workshops will include a parking permit spaces are available. To access the car park follow parking signs on Stockwell Street signed ‘P Short Stay, Council Offices’ and turn left after the first parking bays – this is the entrance to Foxlowe arts centre car park for permit holders, disabled users and others with permission e.g. workshop attendees.
