Amateur Ornithologist started as the recording project of Tyneside pop culture obsessive Daniel Clifford before growing into a full-blown band in Summer '22. With a brain that stores snippets of old comics, adverts and TV, Daniel channels these into Amateur Ornithologist's weird pop music and visuals.
Amateur Ornithologist has earned comparisons to Talking Heads, Depeche Mode and Field Music due to melodic instrumentation, lush harmonies and quirky nostalgic vibes.
With a number of members who are neurodivergent and experience anxiety, the band have had their fair share of awkward social interactions between them. But Amateur Ornithologist aim to use their music to express themselves articulately and create moments of understanding for audiences with similar experiences.
Indie label Harbourmaster Recordings will release Amateur Ornithologist's second album, Building the Bird, on October 21st 2022, building on 2021?s debut Birdwatching and this year's singles (including Hermit Phase and I Told A Lie), which received support from BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, NARC magazine and a host of blogs.
Central Bar is thrilled to be hosting the album's official launch gig.
Support details to be announced soon.
