A night of cumbia, world folk and trad folk at the new Jamboree in King's Cross with the brilliant Malphino and Tom Moore and Archie Moss.
Malphino is a mysterious band from an imaginative tropical island of the same name that plays cumbia and a heady mix of volcanic sounds. Their music serves as a cinematic score to the backdrop of this mystical isle and its ethos.
The musicians of Malphino reinterpret the traditional banda, playing organ, accordion, tuba, and an array of percussion and rhythms from all corners of the world. Their unique take on the style is no doubt influenced by their diverse membership. Malphino is a gathering of nationalities whose members hail from Japan, Malaysia, Colombia, France, UK and the Philippines, and are based in London. This central idea of multiculturalism is the foundation for Malphino?s conceptual music project.
Widely regarded as two of the best players and innovators in traditional Folk amongst a precociously gifted generation, Moore & Moss? finely-crafted arrangements wield a rare potency. Now, having toured with some of the biggest and brightest acts in the British Folk scene, they reconvene to perform as duo.
Their second record (released 2020) further united the deep and resolute harmony of Moss?s accordion with the texture and flow of Moore?s viola; with droning, whirring, sparkling layers of electro-acoustic grit provoking a subtle complexity of palette.
Jamboree is a grass-roots world music venue and bar hosting Folk, Blues, Americana, Celtic, Mediterranean, Eastern, European, GypsyPunk and Old Time Jazz!
Jamboree is back with a POP-UP adventure in a different venue in Limehouse from December 1st!
