Local songwriter and performer James Dixon will offer tips and techniques from his own experience as a songwriter for capturing a mood, abstract idea or direct experience in words using image, rhyme, assonance and metre.
As well as some of his own compositions we will use examples from the music of Laura Marling, Elliot Smith, Madison Cunnigham, Neil Young, Hozier, Jeff Buckely, Radie Peat and others that have particularly inspired James. The aim of the workshop is to demystify the writing process and give some inspiration to create lyrics yourself as well as to bask in the emotion that a great lyric can generate in us.
James Dixon is a singer songwriter based near Bude and has performed across the UK and Europe recently supporting Seasick Steve on his tour. He is also a guest teacher at Guitar Retreats, musical director of the Barrel at Bude music venue and happy long-time collaborator with local guitar maker Dirtbox Guitars.
