Louisa Young has been a full-time writer for decades. She writes fiction: the bestselling First World War novel 'My Dear I Wanted to Tell You', which was shortlisted for the Costa Novel Award and was a Richard and Judy Book Club choice, and its acclaimed sequels 'The Heroes' Welcome' and 'Devotion'; children's books - the 'Lionboy' series; and non-fiction, including 'You Left Early - a True Story of Love and Alcohol', about the life and death of her fiance.
Her new novel, 'Twelve Months and a Day', is about matchmaking ghosts - a sunnier look at living with grief, how it can move along and make a bit of room for happiness alongside.
'All my books turn out to be about love, death and bad mothers,' she says. 'But funny.'
Louisa was born in London. Her work is published in 36 languages.
At this event Louisa will be in conversation with Sophie Pierce. (Their roles will be reversed later this afternoon).
