Palaver+Greenhouse+Queen Horizon+Missile Sky
Palaver ? Crisp post punk riddims that definitely move yo body beeatch, and antsy, ratty guitar, all a beautiful bed for some highly entertaining proclaiming, defaming, narrative punk vocalising. With a lineage of London wordsmiths from Ian Dury and Madness and all points in between, it?s great to hear some proper Borough of Camden Street poetry topping a groovy soundscape or ten. What a Palaver indeed.
Greenhouse? throw down a post punk sensibility akin to The Chameleons on a shoe-gazey dream of distortion reminiscent of Ride, and while stealing from The Cocteau Twins library of sounds they rev it all up into heavenly epic anthems of powerful melodic bliss. Currently on tour in their native Australia with Happy Mondays.
Queen Horizon -Are a new 5 piece indie rock band from Kent. Conceived during lockdown, they?ve been honing their sound for the last couple of years and have their first 4 track EP available now on all streaming platforms. Expect uplifting, in your face, vocals and big guitars. Think Veruca Salt mixed with Roxette or maybe Hole mixed with Fuzzbox.
Missile Sky ? ?Missile Sky is a post pandemic rock band.?? well, let?s hope so?We are rather in epic Snow Patrol/Coldplay territory here.. anthemic pop/rock ticking lots of impassioned U2/Simple Minds boxes with a rather fetching wash of cinematic atmosphere in the ambient keys? add some swish lead guitar wigging out- and things get sort of proggy, shades of Muse, great stuff.
DJs We Got Killers ? Backroom Bangers to die for til 2am
The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines.
There are DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere.
But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
