In 2020, at the request of Castle Manager, Mark Berridge, author and historian Nikolai Tolstoy made a special trip to Bude to share photographs, documents and letters pertaining to members of his family who lived at The Castle during the 1930?s. Count Tolstoy-Miloslavsky is head of the senior branch of the Tolstoy and Miloslavsky families (Maria Ilinichna Miloslavskaya married Tsar Alexei Mihailovich in 1648).? He holds dual British and Russian citizenship, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and is the author of many books including ?Victims of Yalta? and ?The Minister and The Massacres,? and his long-standing fascination with the Arthurian legend and Celtic studies in ?The Quest for Merlin.?. This fascinating conversation will uncover a relatively unknown part of Bude?s rich history.
