One woman's solo sailing odyssey from Land's End to the shores of Greece: this magical memoir explores the unexpected joy of solitude. On New Years Day in 2014 Susan vows to learn how to sail. Life in London has become oppressive and so she rescues a boat, calls her Isean (Gaelic for little bird) and starts sailing qualifications. What follows is her solitary sailing adventure - from Land's End to the shores of Greece - exploring the unabated joy of solitude.
Susan Smillie is a former food editor for G2 and Guardian.com, she wrote mainly on travel, food and the arts. She's the author of one previous book, The Last Sea Nomads, published by Guardian Shorts. She is based between Scotland, with her family, and Greece, where her boat, Isean, is currently moored.
