'the Otherworld' Screening And Discussion With Richard Stanley Event Title Pic

Description

Tuesday March 12th we welcome noted filmmaker Richard Stanley (Hardware, Dust Devil, The Color Out of Space) to present and discuss his documentary 'The Otherworld'.

There are regions on this Earth where the walls between worlds are thinner, where other dimensions intersect with our own and magic still holds sway. Inhabitants of these regions are typically plagued by elemental beings, ghosts, faeries, extraterrestrials and cryptids. Occultists and paranormal researchers refer to these hypothetical pockets in space-time as ?portal? or ?window? areas.

Such a region exists in the south of France.

Forty clicks south of Carcassonne, not far from the Narouze gap that separates the eastern Pyrenees from France?s massif centrale, lies an area of densely wooded hills and valleys where the normal rules of cause and effect, indeed the physical laws of the universe, seem subtly dysfunctional.

No-one can agree on what is wrong with the region or its inhabitants. Whether the root cause of their weird beliefs lies in the water or the electro-magnetic fields generated by the iron content in the mountains is open to question.

The grave digger in Rennes-les-Chateau, is not the only one to believe the locale is overrun with fairies and ?little people? who play tricks on the minds of the unwary. Indeed the entire district, commonly referred to as the ?Zone? might be best described as a black hole in consensus reality - a place where almost anything might be possible. Others have summed it up less charitably as an ?open plan insane asylum?, a place where spiritual seekers rub shoulders with treasure hunters, conspiracy theorists, fringe scientists, witches and wannabe wizards.

It is a region where every day life is far from ordinary, a strange, beautiful and all too often maddening place to visit, yet for the last fifteen years anthropologist and documentary film maker Richard Stanley has made his home there.

?THE OTHERWORLD? is the story of those who live on the other side of the mirror but it is also the story of Stanley?s own journey from credulity to faith.

There are other worlds after all?

After the documentary and a short break, Richard will discuss and answer questions from the audience about the mysterious zone
