From the ashes of ace Irish Garage band The Strypes, who enjoyed substantial international success from supporting the Arctic Monkeys on their ?AM? world tour to celebrated appearances on Letterman and Conan as well as 3 Top 10 albums in the UK and beyond.
The band folded just before Covid but now First Strype Evan has formed The Savage Hearts, with debut single ?Gang War? hitting No 1 on the Irish downloads chart, some major festival appearances and support slots with acts such as The Boomtown Rats and The Undertones.
Tonight this cracking punk n roll outfit head up a carefully hand picked showcase by Evan and Bugbear of local kick ass, garage rock talent. Will be a grand little Rock and Roll party?with?
Sweet Retreat ? blistering lead guitar, an impressively wayward frontman, and a supercool, super confident stage presence, these guys combine raw edgy rock n roll with classic indie nuances (Suede, Manics). Great band.
The Velvet Fuzz ? as heard on, er, wonderful first single ?Wonderful?, the Velvet Fuzz excel in slinky, psychedelic pop with oohs and aahs and lots of sardonic sass. Bloody ace. What a bill this! And we also have?
The Sick Fix ? who actually ain?t from Camden Town, but another Dirty Old Town?A garage punk band of 4 x 15/16 year-olds from Manchester with influences from the Libertines, Dead Boys, the Chats, New York Dolls, The Jam, The Clash, Buzzcocks and so much more. But as they rightly say ?The genre we make is pretty much are own? loud, fast and energetic?
DJ Sammy Starr til 2am
The Dublin Castle is a legendary pub and music venue located 2 minutes away from Camden Town tube station. It has been run by the same family for over 28 years and features 4 live bands every night as well as a great selection of beers, ciders and wines.
There are DJs after the bands on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and a fabulous jukebox in the front bar if you’re after a more relaxed atmosphere.
But what is it that makes the Dublin Castle the long-standing centre of the indie rock universe? Is it because it’s Madness’ birthplace? Because its stage has been graced by everyone from Blur, through Coldplay, Supergrass, The Killers, The Arctic Monkeys, Billy Bragg, etc? Is it because it was no surprise to see Amy Winehouse behind the bar serving costumers? Or Suggs? (who, mind you, tended to ignore costumers and serve himself) Or is it because far from being just another Camden venue it has established itself as an indie rock institution? The answer is that it’s not only because of its musical heritage that people come to the Dublin Castle, it’s because whilst you enjoy a pint, play some tunes on the jukebox, check out the live bands, get your dancing shoes on for our DJs, chat to our friendly staff or even stage-invade a little, you’re inadvertently being part of this movement the Dublin Castle leads, this cultural legacy. Expect no castle battlements. Just pure rock and roll royalty.
