Description

Head down to the legendary Brunswick Cellar Bar for an unforgettable evening celebrating up-and-coming independent songwriters. This wonderful lineup consists of the grand return of mercury-nominated folk legend Jon Coley and melancholy rambler Kiki Annette, joined by local superstar Lula.

JON COLEY

Jon Coley is an acclaimed folk singer songwriter. He plays an eclectic mix of Blues, soul and folk, mixed with fresh original songwriting. He is renowned for his unique guitar playing and passionate vocal performances. He has quickly become a legendary figure in his present home of Manchester and his family's native Liverpool, where his grandfather worked to book for the Cavern Club.

Jon has played alongside John Renbourn, Blind Boy Paxton, Michael Chapman, Jon Gomm, Wizz Jones, Dylan LeBlanc, Chance McCoy, Charlie Parr, Tre? Burt, and shared a stage and many more, at venues as varied as New York's Bitter End Club, Preservation Hall New Orleans, and Liverpool's Echo Arena. He counts James Taylor and Joni Mitchell amongst his friends. After years of live touring, Jon released his Mercury nominated album "If All I Ever Wanted Was All I Ever Needed" to critical acclaim in 2021.

KIKI ANNETTE

If you listen very carefully, Kiki Annette can be heard wailing and dragging guitar cases across the world like the ghost of a murdered Victorian child. Made in the Netherlands, matured in Berlin and the UK, she has been given many honorary titles over the years. ?Manchester?s Phoebe Bridgers,? ?the mayor of the Berlin busking community,? ?an artist Leonard Cohen would?ve envied?, or her favourite: ?that girl with the voice.? Her favourite sources of inspiration are despair and French Cinema, so tears aren?t mandatory but much appreciated. With captivating lyrics, a uniquely warm voice and intricate instrumental work the listener tends to find her difficult to forget. Kiki focuses on honest, melancholy folk noir with a self aware and slightly humorous twist.

Her debut self-produced record, created and mixed at the highly acclaimed Famous Gold Watch studios at Berlin is set for release later this year.

LULA

Lula is a Singer/Songwriter and all round weirdo based in Brighton UK. Currently working on new material and EP release, she writes empowering messages of love, loss and spirituality in her lyrics cut over catchy soulful, alternative beats. Having gained experience as a performer she knows it can be hard out here for a B'itch, and seeks to support young femme artists. After all, the future is female.

The Brunswick Profile Pic

Description

The Brunswick has been transformed through an extensive refurbishment programme to become the premier music and arts venue in Hove. The owners are committed to providing quality, value for money and a friendly atmosphere. We believe that a pub is an essential part of any thriving community, and should be seen as a facility for the whole community. By encouraging local groups, we run a range of classes: acting, singing, painting, language, wine tasting; and have become a meeting place for a number of groups. With a large garden and a number of meeting rooms, we can offer space for most clubs, societies or social groups. If your looking for somewhere to host your book group, yoga class, dance class, debating club, and so on, give us a call, or better still, pop in. Support your local pub.

Built in the 1930’s, The Brunswick is a striking building with curved bays, turret roofs and brass crittall style windows. Much of the original paneling (the same as used in the Orient Express) has been rescued and restored, particularly in The Venue. Atmosphere and mood change as you move from the beautifully constructed sunny garden through the airy garden room to the bar (a fusion of the best of modern bar and traditional pub). Despite the high-tech sound and stage equipment, the music and arts Venue with its wood paneling, period lighting and fireplace retains a wonderfully cozy feel. Upstairs we have beautifully decorated rooms for meetings and private parties – see Function Room Hire

We offer a broad range of home cooked food every day. Accolades have included “Restaurant quality food at pub prices”; “The best Sunday Lunch in Brighton”; “As an American, I’m very critical of hamburgers – this is one of the best I’ve had anywhere.”
